Born in Calcutta, Sugata Chatterjee began disciplined training in Hindustani classical music during childhood under Guru Satya Ranjan Chatterjee. She completed Sangeet Prabhakar, a six-year diploma in Hindustani classical vocal music conferred by Allahabad Sangeet Parishad in India.

She continued advanced training with Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty, Pandit Mohanlal Mishra, Pandit Falguni Mitra, and Girija Devi. Her music brings together classical depth, lyrical sensitivity, and a wide repertoire for concert, devotional, and educational settings.
